The 2020 United Nations Conference on Biological Diversity, the first phase of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15), was successfully held in Kunming, China from October 11-15. President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the leaders' summit. The theme of this conference was "Ecological Civilization: Building a Community of Life on Earth." Biodiversity protection, as a millennium plan for deepening the construction of ecological civilization and related to the sustainable development of the Chinese nation, quickly occupied the mainstream hot topic in China’s political, legal and scientific circles, and accelerated the spread and recognition of the concept of biodiversity protection in the whole society.
Professor Qin Tianbao, the director of the Institute of Environmental Law of Wuhan University and the chief expert of the Institute of International Law of Wuhan University, relied on his many years of research accumulation and the major project of the National Social Science Fund "Research on the Legal Regulation of Biodiversity Protection under the Overall System View", and leveraged the advantages of Wuhan University's environmental law discipline, and actively contributed to the work related to biodiversity conservation by participating in negotiations, publishing papers, and accepting interviews.
