Dr. Li Meiting Gave a Lecture on NGOs Efforts to Reduce Industrial Pollution

On the afternoon of April 18, 2019, the eighty-eight Luojia Lecture Series on Environmental Law was held in classroom 325 of law school. Dr. Li Meiting, the associate director of Environmental Research Center and Adjunct Assistant Professor at Duke Kunshan University, was invited to give a lecture. The lecture topic is “Civil Society and Risk Regulation: Insights from NGOs Efforts to Reduce Industrial Pollution”.

This lecture was hosted by Dr. Hu Bin. PhD and master students from RIEL attended this lecture. At the beginning of lecture, Dr. Hu Bin introduced Dr. Li Meiting and her research experience briefly and hoped that students from RIEL could have a deeper understanding of the role of NGOs in environmental issues.

Dr. Li Meiting first introduced different subjects involved in environmental risk control in risk society and then analyzed the specific ways for NGOs to intervene in industrial pollution risk control, like news exposure, administrative accountability, public interest litigation, etc. Afterwards, Dr. Li Meiting discussed the statue quo the prevention and control of industrial pollution risks by NGOs in China.

At the end of the lecture, Dr. Li Meiting and students had a heated discussion on the categories of NGOs and their collaboration with governments. The lecture ended in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
