Mr. Peng Xianwei Talked about the Compensation for Marine Oil Pollution Damage

On the morning of December 14, 2018, the eighty-fourth Luojia Lecture Series on Environmental Law was held in classroom 325 of law school. Mr. Peng Xianwei, a senior partner of DeHeng Law Office, gave a lecture on “The compensation for marine oil pollution damage: law and judicial practice in China”. This lecture was hosted by Prof. Qin Tianbao. Mr. Hou Zhenkun, full-time member of judicial committee of Wuhan Maritime Court, Mr. Shu Shi, lawyer from DeHeng Law Office, PhD and master students from RIEL attended this lecture.

At the beginning of the lecture, Mr. Peng briefly introduced the general situation of China’s coastal oil spill accidents and their claim processing. And he further elaborated the legal framework of civil liability for oil pollution of ships. At last, Mr. Peng made an in-depth discussion on the subject of liability, the subject of claim and the item of claim.

At the end of the lecture, Prof. Qin made a brief summary and comment on the content of the lecture. He emphasized that the marine environmental public interest litigation is also a hot issue which needs to be taken seriously. Prof. Qin also presented the certificate to Mr. Peng for providing a wonderful lecture. The eighty-fourth Luojia Lecture Series on Environmental Law ended in a warm and relax atmosphere.
