U.S. Expert Talks on How Courts Adopt Scientific and Technological Evidence in Environmental Litigation

On the evening of April 19, 2018, the sixty-eighth lecture of Luojia Lecture Series on Environmental Law was given in the 325 Classroom of the Law School. This Lecture had the honor to invite Professor Jack Tuholske and Associate Professor Lin Xiaodie from the Vermont Law School who brought the lecture themed “How US courts evaluate expert scientific testimony in environmental cases”.

This lecture was hosted by Associate professor Li Guangbing, Assistant Director of RIEL. Professor Michael Healy from the University of Kentucky, Professor Sam Bleicher from Georgetown University School of Law, Professor Wang Qingjun from Central China Normal University, Professor Guo Shaohua from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Associate Professor Wu Zhiliang, Associate Professor Luo Ji and deputy director Dr. Bin Hubin from RIEL, members of the Wuhan University’s environmental law clinic, and doctoral and master students at the school attended the lecture.

At the beginning of the lecture, Associate Professor Li Guangbing gave a brief introduction to Prof. Jack Tuholske, Associate Professor Lin Xiaodie, and interlocutors. Prof. Jack Tuholske and Associate Professor Lin Xiaobiao expressed their great pleasure in being invited to this lecture. Professor Jack Tuholske first pointed out that environmental public interest litigation is a difficult war. He is very pleased that RIEL has opened an environmental law clinic. Next, Professor Jack Tuholske started the lecture with three cases.

At the end of the lecture, the students also raised their own questions. The professors had a lively discussion and analysis of these issues, and the students expressed that they had benefited a lot. The lecture ended in a warm atmosphere.
