RIEL successfully held the "Yangtze River Basin Environmental Resources Judicial Protection" seminar
February 25, 2017, "the Yangtze River Basin environmental resources judicial protection" seminar held in Wuhan University. The meeting was sponsored by the Supreme People's Court Environmental Resources Judgment Court, the Supreme People's Court Environmental Resources Judicial Theory Research Base (Wuhan University), the National "2011 Plan" Judicial Civilization Collaborative Innovation Center, and Wuhan University Environmental Law Research Institute hosted. At the meeting, there were judges, management and science and technology workers and lawyers from the Supreme People's Court, the Higher People's Court of Hubei Province, the Wuhan Maritime Court, the Yangtze River Water Conservancy Commission and other substantive departments, experts and scholars from Wuhan University, Huazhong Normal University, Zhongnan Finance and Economics University, Hubei University of Economics and other institutions of higher learning, doctoral students, master students of environmental law from Wuhan University, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law and other colleges and universities also attended the meeting. This conference is a symposium focusing on environmental justice protection in the Yangtze River Basin, which cohere theoretical research with judicial affairs.
The opening ceremony of the meeting was officiated by Prof. Wang Shuyi, Director of the Environmental Law Judicial Theory Research Center of the Supreme People's Court (Wuhan University), co-director of the Synergistic Innovation Center of Judicial Civilization, Professor Feng Guo, Dean of the Law School of Wuhan University and Supreme People's Court Environmental Resources Trial Court Wei Wenchao Vice President, respectively, delivered warm speeches.
The meeting focused on the theme of "the Yangtze River Basin Environmental Resources Judicial Protection" divided into three units to make keynote speeches. After the end of the three-unit keynote speech, Professor Wang Shuyi, Director of the Research Institute of Environmental Resources Judicial Research at the Supreme People's Court (Wuhan University), presided over the closing ceremony and made a concluding statement, stated that in the context of the "Great Protection" of the Yangtze River Economic Zone, we should recognizing the importance of resource conservation in the Yangtze River Basin and pointed out that the important value of protecting the resources of the Yangtze River Basin is also an important reason for the Supreme People's Court to formulate guidance on the judicial protection of environmental resources in the Yangtze River Basin.
On the judicial protection of environmental resources in the Yangtze River Basin, Professor Wang Shuyi further pointed out that it is necessary to recognize the particularity of the basin itself and the particularity of the watershed cases dominated by wading disputes and represented the Supreme People's Court Environmental Resources Judicial Theory Research Base, "2011" plan judicial civilization collaborative innovation center, Wuhan University Institute of Environmental Law to express my heartfelt thanks to all the experts and scholars, the judges to attend the symposium and to express appreciation to the Supreme People's Court Environmental Resources Court’s strongly support.
