On the morning of November 7, 2016, the 14th RIEL Alumni Salon invited Prof. Tou Xiaodong, the 2004 PhD graduate of RIEL and the director of department Humanities and Social Sciences, Ningbo University, and Assoc. Prof. Huang Zheng from Northwest University of Political Science and Law, who is the 2001 Master graduate of RIEL. They brought a wonderful lecture together entitled “Challenges for the Development of Environmental Law Disciplines in Colleges and Universities”.
At the beginning of this lecture, Prof. Tou Xiaodong reviewed his own learning experiences. He believed that the systematical learning of environment law knowledge can prompt the expansion and the change of peoples’ methodology, as well as develop interdisciplinary, holistic and sustainable thinking. Next, he systematically summed up and analyzed ten difficult problems faced by environmental law disciplines and put forward the directions of promoting its development, namely, coordinating the multi-national projects, exploring the student team development, and building family groups and cross-regional groups.
Subsequently, Prof. Huang Zheng made a keynote speech, concluding that the environmental law disciplines faced several challenges now: firstly, environmental law graduates are short of professional employment advantages, secondly, the supply of the public needs is not enough to provide reality guarantee, thirdly, the study of environmental law itself is fragmented due to the original close administrative affiliation of universities, fourth, some colleges and universities lack information resources and need to strengthen the building of information think tank.
