On the morning of December 24th, Prof. Qin Tianbao was invited by the Hubei Provincial Library and the Hubei Provincial Environmental Protection Office to the Yangtze Forum to do the lecture on the “not in my backyard” phenomenon of Environmental Risk Project. Nearly 200 citizens attended and listened to this inspiring lecture.

Under the theme of “ ‘not in my backyard’ phenomenon: how to cope with?”, in the following two hours, Prof. Qin Tianbao, introduced respectively: “what is the ‘not in my backyard’ phenomenon”, “ what is the underlying cause of the emergence of ‘not in my backyard’ phenomenon”, “the direct cause of the frequency of ‘not in my backyard’ phenomenon”, “the reference extraterritorial experience in coping with the phenomenon” and “the suggestion of the methods coping with ‘not in my backyard’ phenomenon”. The introduction to citizens went from shallow to deep, vivid and interesting.

At the beginning of the lecture, reviewing the frequent events happened in China in recent years, Prof. Qin summed up the three characteristics: the overall number increased, the project category increased, the regional extension, and had a comprehensive analysis combined data with theory.

In the following time, Prof. Qin Tianbao systematically summed up and specifically analyzed of the underlying causes of the emergence of “not in my backyard” phenomenon. On the question of how to coordinate and cope with “not in my backyard” phenomenon, Prof. Qin Tianbao introduced some experience outside the domain, and gave some his own suggestion as well.

In the last session of Q&A, Prof. Qin Tianbao patiently and wisely answered the audiences’ questions, fully embodied the openness of environmental law. The lecture was successfully concluded in a warm atmosphere.
