Dr. Eduardo Gallo-Cajiao visits Luojia Lecture Series on Environmental Law

On November 2, 2016, the 38th Luojia Lecture Series on Environmental Law invited Dr. Eduardo Gallo-Cajiao from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. He gave a wonderful lecture entitled “Recent Developments of International Law on Biological Diversity”.

Dr. Eduardo Gallo-Cajiao’s lectures was divided into three parts. The first one is about “Institutional Background for Transboundary Biodiversity Conservation", he introduced the nature and the main principles of international environmental law from the relations and influences within and among the countries, and elaborated the function of international treaties. He also selected five international treaties on the conservation of biological diversity, including the Ramsar Convention, WHC, CITES, CMS and CBD, and made an explanation and analysis of the contents of main articles.

In the second section, Dr. Eduardo Gallo-Cajiao gave a detailed explanation of the “migration of species and its protection”, pointing out that the special nature of species migration determined the need of joint action by international treaties to protect migratory species. The last part is about the “Coastal bird protection in the Asia-Pacific region”, he used the Log Betweenness Centrality to show the information that included institutional frameworks, species habitat numbers, and hunting prohibitions, noting that different countries should share the three kinds of information. Finally, Dr. Eduardo Gallo-Cajiao conducted a comparative analysis of bilateral treaties involving China, Australia and the United States.
