Prof. Wang Shizhou visits Luojia Lecture Series on Environmental Law
On September 14, 2016, Wang Shizhou, the professor of Peking University Law School, visited Luojia Lecture Series on Environmental Law and gave a lecture on “the Significance of Comparative Methodology in Current Chinese Law Research”. The lecture was chaired by Prof. Qin Tianbao, who first briefly introduced the educational background, work experience, research field and achievements of Prof. Wang Shizhou. Then, Prof. Wang detailed the comparative study and Humboldt Scholarship for all the participants.
Prof. Wang believed that the comparative study is a shortcut to the academic research, which has not yet attracted enough attention in China. He also emphasized the importance of concepts which will determine the direction of our thinking. Prof. Wang also believed that learning a foreign language is a prerequisite for doing comparative law research, and once again stressed the deep understanding of terminology in advanced research. In addition, Prof. Wang expressed his own expectations to the students and the teachers attending the lecture, expecting students with global perspective can pay attention to learning methods and flexible use.
After that, Prof. Qin Tianbao summarized the lecture and encouraged students to read more foreign original books. Finally, Prof. Wang Shizhou discussed practical problems of comparative study, and the relationships among empirical research, comparative research and theoretical study with teachers and students.
