Teachers of RIEL attended Berlin Workshop on Sino-German Major Water Collaborative Project
On 18-20 April 2016, the Workshop on SIGN-OPERA, which is the sub-project of Sino-German Major Water Collaborative Project was successfully held in the headquarters of Helmholtz Association, Berlin. Prof. Qin Tianbao, Director of RIEL, and Dr. Wu Yu were invited.
This workshop was divide into two sessions including “Urban Water Management” and “Governance and Policy”. Prof. Qin Tianbao gave a keynote speecn entitled “China's Regional Water Governance: A Case Study of Taihu Lake and Wuhan” in the session of “Governance and Policy”, and discussed “Water Pollution Control Action Plan”, ecological compensation, sponge cities and urban planning issues with other participants. After the meeting, the delegation visited the UBA located in Dessau, and attended the presentation on the German water management given by Dr. Harald Ginzky.
It is reported that China and Germany established a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2014 by jointly issuing the Sino-German Cooperation Action Plan. Strengthening the water pollution control and the science and technology innovation are important projects of this plan. On May 7, 2015, under the framework of Sino-German innovation year, two sides initiated the collaborative project around Dianchi Lake, Liaohe River, Taihu Lake, Chaohu Lake and other major projects, and signed the Declaration of Sino-German Major Water Collaborative Project.
