Prof. Qin Tianbao attends climate change-related international academic activities
On May 12-13,2016, Prof. Qin Tianbao has participated in the “International Symposium on Climate Change and Sustainable Development Goals” and the “International Dialog on National Emission Reduction Obligations under Global Climate Change”, and other academic activities.
The“International Symposium on Climate Change and Sustainable Development Goals” was held by School of Law, Renmin University of China. Prof. Qin Tianbao and more than 20 experts and scholars from Supreme People's Court of PRC, European Court of Human Rights, the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales, Australia, Yale University, Stellenbosch University of South Africa, Tsinghua University, People's University of China, China Academy of Social Sciences attended the symposium. Prof. Qin analyzed the bottom-up mechanism of Paris Agreement and its influences. He noted that this mechanism had both the advantage of respect for sovereignty, non-antagonism and non-penalty and disadvantages of the lack of legally binding. The best way is to combine bottom-up and top-down, in order to play a comprehensive role in the environmental governance and international climate change governance.
On the evening of May 13, 2016, at the invitation of the Yale Beijing Center, Prof. Qin Tianbao also participated in the “International Dialog on National Emission Reduction Obligations under Global Climate Change”. The participating experts introduced the emission reduction obligation of the state and enterprises after Paris Agreement. Prof. Qin Tianbao particularly answered questions around environmental governance mode, soil pollution legislation and China’s prospects of reduction targets and other issues.
