On November 17, 2015, the seminar on Environmental Justice and the Petrochemical Industry, which is also the 3rd Luojia Forum on Environmental Law was successfully held at Room 446, school of law. This seminar was co-hosted by Assoc. Prof. Li Guangbing, the assistant of director of RIEL and “1000 Talents Program” Distinguished Prof. Ben Boer. Dr. Alice Mah, the project leader of “Toxic Expertise”, University of Warwick, and researcher Dr. Wang Xinhong were invited to give a lecture.

The first part of the forum is the introduction of “Toxic Expertise” project, Dr. Alice Mah as the speaker. First, she briefly introduced the time, methods, focus and interdisciplinary expertise of this research, followed by the statement of environmental justice and its development, contents and main ideas. Also, Dr. Mah cited four current challenges and obstacles faced by environmental justice, indicating the need to solve the problems by transnational actions across local case studies. Finally, Dr. Mah stressed that the potential contribution of this study should not be underestimated.

The second part is the Chinese case study report by Dr. Wang Xinhong. Taking the example of a case that a 16-year-old Nanjing girl and her parents sue three petrochemical enterprises, Dr. Wang detailed its origin and verdict, and interacted with students around defendant liability exemption. After a short coffee break, all professors from various faculties of WHU reviewed the displays and discussed with two researchers.
