RIEL successfully hosts the Protected Areas Law & Governance Teachers and Trainers Workshop

On November 23-27, 2015, the Protected Areas Law & Governance Teachers and Trainers Workshop co-sponsored by RIEL and IUCN Environmental Law Center was successfully held, which was also the 4th Luojia Forum on Environmental Law. The director of RIEL Prof. Qin Tianbao, the director of IUCN-CEL Mr. Antonio Benjamin, legal officer of IUCN-CEL Ms. Lydia Slobodian, and distinguished Professor Ben Boer attended the opening ceremony.

Prof. Sandy Paterson from University of Cape Town first explained protected areas law and governance and 12 course modules and relevant web operations regarding teaching resources and methods on November 23-24. The next day, all participants departed WHU for Mulan Tianchi which was chosen as a protected area case, conducted a site inspection and launched a discussion with resort managers. On November 26, all the participants divided into four groups analyzed and discussed legal issues related to the protection areas while each team member put forward their real problems and resolutions. In the last day, the training class held a graduation ceremony, Ms. Lydia Slobodian on behalf of IUCN Environmental Law Center highly appreciated RIEL’s organization, coordination and implementation capacity in the this training, she also expressed that IUCN Environmental Law Centre were going to carry out closer and more sustained cooperation with RIEL.
