Prof. Mark Poustie visits Luojia Lecture Series on EL
On November 11 evening, 2015, Prof. Mark Poustie was invited to Luojia Lecture Series on EL and gave a speech titled “the Outlook of 2015 Paris Climate Change Conference”. Hosted by Qin Tianbao, this lecture also invited Prof. Ben Boer, Assoc. Prof. Benoit Meyer and all postgraduate students of RIEL.
Prof. Mark Poustie first stressed the importance and necessity of attention to climate change and noted the huge impact on human life and environment caused by dramatic climate change, therefore it is necessary to reach a consensus in the implementation of reducing the global greenhouse effect. Next Professor Poustie briefly introduced the contents and objectives of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1997 and the Kyoto Protocol in 1992, focusing on “common but differentiated" principle and its application in developing countries and developed countries.
Then Prof. Poustie described the ambitious goals that keeping the global rising temperatures below two degrees centigrade, and stressed the negative consequences of its deficiency. Meanwhile, he pointed out that reaching a consensus faced many obstacles. Finally, Prof. Poustie interpreted the application of distinctiveness principle, the emission reduction and fund issues in the preparatory meeting by chart, and put forward his expectation about Paris Conference. Prof. Qin Tianbao, Prof. Ben Bore and Prof. Benoit Meyer made wonderful comments and heated discussion about the determination of emission standards, economic and energy transformation, technology transfer, intellectual property, and other issues.
